Möbius Strip Bridges Two Worlds of Art and Math

In 1858, August Ferdinand Möbius showed that a simple strip of paper twisted once and joined at the ends becomes a single-sided surface that challenges our everyday sense of front and back. Artists such as M.C. Escher later used this continuous loop to create drawings that seem to flow without end. Mathematicians now use the Möbius strip as a gentle doorway to topology, the study of shapes that can be stretched but never torn.

💡 Fun detail: If an ant starts walking down the center line, it will travel twice the length of the strip before returning to its starting point on the 'same' side.
