Möbius Strips Appear in Roman Floor Mosaics

Some ancient Roman mosaic floors include continuous ribbon patterns that twist once before rejoining themselves, forming a surface with only one side and one edge. These shapes require careful planning of tile direction and color transitions so the twist remains invisible until the viewer walks around the pattern.

💡 Fun detail: Children can recreate the surprise at home by taking a narrow paper strip, giving it a half-twist, and joining the ends to watch a single ant-sized crayon line travel both sides without lifting the crayon.
