Octopuses Edit Their Own RNA

Certain octopus species can alter the instructions in their messenger RNA after it leaves the cell nucleus, allowing them to change protein functions without rewriting their DNA. This remarkable ability helps them adapt quickly to cold ocean temperatures and other changing conditions.

๐Ÿ’ก Fun detail: Researchers have found more than 10,000 RNA editing sites in the nervous system of the California two-spot octopus, far more than in humans.
