Fireflies Produce Cold Light

Fireflies create light through a chemical reaction involving luciferin and the enzyme luciferase, producing almost no heat. This efficient process, called bioluminescence, allows them to signal mates in complete darkness.

๐Ÿ’ก Fun detail: If the same light were produced by an incandescent bulb, it would feel hot enough to burn your fingers.
