Fireflies Produce Cold Light
Fireflies create light through a chemical reaction involving luciferin and the enzyme luciferase, producing almost no heat. This efficient process, called bioluminescence, allows them to signal mates in complete darkness.

If the same light were produced by an incandescent bulb, it would feel hot enough to burn your fingers.
