Underwater Volcanoes Create Rivers of Molten Lava on the Seafloor

At mid-ocean ridges, magma erupts through cracks and forms glowing streams of basalt that instantly chill into pillow-shaped rocks. These eruptions build new oceanic crust at rates of several centimeters per year.
