A Neutron Star Spins Like a Lighthouse
A neutron star can rotate hundreds of times per second, sending beams of radio waves into space that sweep past Earth like a lighthouse beam. These rapidly spinning objects, called pulsars, are the collapsed cores of massive stars and measure only about 20 kilometers across yet contain more mass than our Sun.
๐ก Fun detail:
Some pulsars are so precise that they rival atomic clocks, helping scientists test theories of gravity across the galaxy.
