Some Frogs Freeze Solid in Winter
Wood frogs in North America can survive being frozen for weeks during winter hibernation. Their bodies produce a natural antifreeze that protects vital organs while the rest of the frog turns into a solid block of ice. When temperatures rise, the frogs thaw and hop away unharmed.
๐ก Fun detail:
Up to 65 percent of the water in a wood frog's body can freeze without causing permanent damage.
