Ducklings Count Their Mother’s Quacks

Newly hatched ducklings quickly learn to recognize the exact number of quacks their mother makes before she leads them away from the nest. Researchers found that the ducklings can distinguish a count of two from three or four, showing an early grasp of simple numbers.

💡 Fun detail: This counting skill helps ducklings stay with the right family group when several mothers call at once, even in noisy wetlands.
